About the area

Why people love Clarkston.

People often ask me why so many buyers are drawn to Clarkston and Independence Township, and honestly, it’s easy to understand once you’ve spent a little time here.

Clarkston has managed to do something many communities strive for but few achieve: it has preserved its small-town character while remaining incredibly convenient to both the rest of Metro Detroit and “up north.” With easy access to I-75 and other major commuting routes, residents can get where they need to go without giving up the sense of community that makes this area special.

At the heart of it all is The Village of Clarkston. Depot Park serves as the community’s gathering place, hosting everything from Art in the Village and summer concerts to winter ice skating and family events throughout the year. Just a short walk away, downtown Clarkston is filled with locally owned shops, restaurants, and gathering places that give the community its unmistakable personality. Events like Taste of Clarkston, the Holiday Lights Parade, and the Fourth of July festivities bring neighbors together in a way that feels increasingly rare today.

What I appreciate most is that Clarkston celebrates both fun and tradition. Whether it’s cheering at either the 4th of July or Holiday Lights parade, enjoying a summer evening concert in the park, or attending the Memorial Day ceremony honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice, there’s a genuine sense of community here.

Pine Knob Music Theatre has welcomed legendary performers since 1972, and its neighboring ski hill offers residents the rare opportunity to enjoy concerts in the summer and skiing in the winter, all without leaving the community.

And of course, Clarkston schools are a major draw. Families are attracted by the district’s strong reputation in academics, athletics, music, and specialized programs, including highly regarded autism services.

Clarkston/Independence isn’t just a place to live. It’s a place to belong. That’s what keeps drawing buyers here year after year, and it’s one of the many reasons I’m proud to call it home.
